The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has congratulated the newly appointed Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, describing his emergence as well-merited and expressing optimism in his ability to provide effective leadership for the nation’s policing system.

Oyetola gave the commendation on Thursday while receiving the police chief during a courtesy visit in Abuja, where he noted that Disu’s professional record and years of dedicated service positioned him to strengthen the country’s security framework.

“I warmly congratulate you on your appointment as Inspector-General of Police. Your track record of professionalism and service inspires confidence that you will perform excellently in this office and further strengthen the security architecture of our country,” the minister said.

In his response, Disu expressed appreciation for the minister’s support and assured of the readiness of the Nigeria Police Force to work closely with ministries and agencies whose responsibilities intersect with national security and economic growth. He emphasized that the Force would continue to provide intelligence-driven policing and operational support to safeguard key sectors, including the maritime domain.

Deliberations during the meeting centred on enhancing cooperation between the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy and the Police to improve coordinated security operations across Nigeria’s coastal and inland waterways. Both leaders acknowledged the increasing importance of maritime resources to economic expansion and stressed the need for improved surveillance and protection of critical marine assets.

Oyetola described the visit as timely, noting that collaboration among security and government institutions remains vital to advancing the Federal Government’s blue economy vision. He reiterated the ministry’s commitment to working with law enforcement agencies to ensure that the country’s waterways remain secure and attractive for investment.

“The maritime sector holds enormous promise for economic diversification and job creation. To unlock its full potential, we must guarantee safety and order across our waterways through seamless cooperation among all relevant agencies,” he said.

Disu also reaffirmed the Police Force’s commitment to intensifying maritime security operations through intelligence-led patrols, enforcement activities, and strengthened partnerships aimed at tackling criminal activities along the waterways.

Both parties agreed to sustain regular engagement and coordinated operational strategies to enhance surveillance, boost response capacity, and improve information sharing in protecting Nigeria’s marine environment.
