The Nasarawa State Police Command has imposed a total ban on the burning of used tyres during crossover night activities marking the New Year celebrations across the state, warning that violators will be arrested and prosecuted.

The directive was issued by the Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, as part of measures to ensure public safety and maintain order during the festivities. The ban was disclosed in an official statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police has directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to ensure strict enforcement of the ban across their respective jurisdictions, with clear instructions to arrest and prosecute any individual found engaging in the burning of tyres.

The police explained that the decision became necessary to protect critical government and private infrastructure from damage and defacement, prevent environmental pollution, and ensure the free flow of traffic as well as the safety of residents during the New Year celebrations.

CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed also specifically cautioned vulcanizers across the state to ensure that all used tyres are properly disposed of or removed from their premises at the close of business each day, in order to prevent unauthorized access by members of the public. He further appealed to parents and guardians to caution their wards against engaging in the burning of tyres or any other related unlawful activities during the period.

The Nasarawa State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a peaceful, safe and hitch-free New Year celebration, assuring residents that adequate security measures have been put in place to safeguard lives and property throughout the festive period.
