The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has taken far-reaching disciplinary measures against erring personnel while reaffirming its unwavering commitment to repositioning the Corps for professionalism, efficiency and effective service delivery under the leadership of the Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi mni, OFR.

The Commandant General made this known as the Corps concluded disciplinary processes against officers found culpable of various acts of misconduct, stressing that while excellence, loyalty and dedication would always be rewarded, indiscipline, truancy and violations of extant laws and codes would not be tolerated.

In an official signed statement by the National Public Relations Officer, CSC Afolabi Babawale, Prof. Audi said his administration remains focused on revamping the NSCDC through continuous training and re-training of operatives, improved welfare packages, and the introduction of reward mechanisms to boost the morale of officers who distinguish themselves in the discharge of the Corps’ statutory duties.

According to him, the NSCDC places high value on officers who exhibit good conduct, professionalism, loyalty and patriotism, but will decisively sanction any personnel whose actions undermine the values, ethics and code of conduct guiding the Corps. He emphasised that discipline remains the bedrock of any effective security organisation.

The CG highlighted several landmark achievements recorded under his leadership, including the clearance of promotion arrears, the introduction of Career Progression Courses, the implementation of a Life Insurance Compensation Scheme to cushion the pain of families of fallen personnel, strict compliance with the federal character principle in appointments and promotions, and the promotion of gender inclusiveness across the Corps.

Providing details of recent disciplinary actions, Prof. Audi disclosed that within the year 2025 alone, cases involving various offences were thoroughly investigated and concluded, with a total of 76 personnel, comprising both senior and junior staff, sanctioned to serve as a deterrent to others.

He revealed that following directives of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), disciplinary actions were taken against some senior officers based on recommendations of the NSCDC Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee. “About 38 senior officers, including an Assistant Commandant General, were dismissed for gross misconduct, insubordination and acts unbecoming of superior officers, in line with the Public Service Rules,” the CG stated.

In addition, two senior officers were demoted by two ranks, one officer was demoted by one rank with loss of seniority, while five others were issued warning letters.

On the junior cadre, the Commandant General said the Junior Staff Disciplinary Committee considered 30 cases bordering on job racketeering, extortion, aiding and abetting illegal dealings in petroleum products, fraudulent practices, gun running, absence without leave (AWOL), and other acts unbecoming of personnel, as stipulated in the NSCDC Standard Operating Procedures, Code of Conduct and the Public Service Rules.

“After due consideration of these cases involving varying degrees of gross misconduct, 20 junior personnel were dismissed from service, three were demoted by one rank, while seven were issued warning letters,” he said.

Prof. Audi charged all officers and men of the Corps to remain focused and committed to the discharge of the NSCDC’s statutory mandate, particularly in view of the expanding responsibilities entrusted to the Corps by the Federal Government. He reminded personnel that “to whom much is given, much is expected,” stressing that professionalism, loyalty and regimental discipline must remain their guiding principles.

He further assured Nigerians of the Corps’ readiness to effectively undertake the VIP Protection duties recently assigned to it through a Presidential Order. While acknowledging that the current manpower may be limited compared to the enormity of the task, the Commandant General expressed confidence that NSCDC operatives are fully prepared, disciplined and ready to deliver on the assignment.

The latest disciplinary actions, he said, underscore the resolve of the NSCDC leadership to build a disciplined, accountable and people-centred Corps capable of meeting Nigeria’s evolving internal security challenges.
