COAS decorates Army spokesperson Appolonia Anele as Colonel, tasks DAPR on stronger strategic communication

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu Nigerian Army Medal, has decorated the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Appolonia Anele, with the rank of Colonel, marking a significant milestone in her career and reaffirming the Nigerian Army’s commitment to strengthening strategic communication.

According to an official signed statement by the Acting Staff Officer 1 Information/Publicity, Headquarters Directorate of Army Public Relations, Major Akinola Ajibola, the decoration ceremony held on 9 December 2025 at the Army Headquarters in Abuja saw the COAS commend Colonel Anele for her professionalism, steadfast dedication and exemplary service to the Nigerian Army.

Represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans (Army), Major General Bamidele Alabi, the COAS emphasized that public trust remains a strategic enabler for successful military operations. He charged the Directorate of Army Public Relations to continue projecting the image of the Nigerian Army with integrity, transparency and timeliness, stressing that effective communication is essential to sustaining national confidence in the Armed Forces.

The Army Chief further urged Colonel Anele to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, discipline and loyalty, while providing strong mentorship that would continue to enhance the capacity and efficiency of the Directorate.

In her vote of thanks, Colonel Anele expressed deep gratitude to Almighty God, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, and the COAS for their guidance, support and leadership, which she described as pivotal to her growth in service.

The ceremony was attended by former Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Sani Usman Kukasheka (Rtd), Colonel Mustapha Anka (Rtd), senior officers both serving and retired, as well as family members, friends and well-wishers.
