The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 19 suspected internet fraudsters in coordinated sting operations across Cross River and Akwa Ibom States.
According to an official statement by the Commission’s spokesperson Dele Oyewale, operatives of the Uyo Zonal Directorate carried out the operations between June 11 and 19, 2025, following actionable intelligence on the suspects’ alleged involvement in cybercrimes.
Thirteen of the suspects were apprehended on Thursday, June 19, at the Atimbo and Lemna Trailer Park areas of Calabar, Cross River State. The remaining six were picked up earlier on Wednesday, June 11, during a separate operation in the Idoro area of Akwa Ibom State.
During the raids, EFCC operatives recovered three exotic cars, 31 mobile phones, and five laptop computers from the suspects, all believed to be tools used in committing internet-related fraud.
The Commission disclosed that the suspects will be formally charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The arrests are part of ongoing efforts by the EFCC to curb the rising tide of cybercrime in Nigeria and bring perpetrators to justice.
