In a bold step toward modernizing the fight against corruption, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has announced plans to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other innovative technologies into its operations.

An official signed statement by the commission’s spokesperson Demola Bakare, disclosed that the announcement was made on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, by ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN), during the official signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Commission and the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI). The ceremony took place at the Muhammadu Buhari Technology and Innovation Complex in Abuja.

Describing the partnership as a “critical synergy,” Dr. Aliyu said the collaboration is aimed at equipping the Commission with the necessary technological edge to more effectively detect, prevent, and respond to corruption.

“ICPC would like to appreciate NASENI for its readiness to collaborate with the Commission in providing the necessary technological resources in confronting the current challenges of corruption,” Dr. Aliyu said. “This is a vital partnership between an innovative agency and an anti-graft agency—which is good for both parties.”

The Chairman emphasized that leveraging AI and digital innovation is now an imperative in anti-corruption efforts, noting that the collaboration will support the Commission’s work in a technology-driven environment. “I hope this MoU will open a way for us to see how we can partner to tackle the issue of corruption that is facing Nigeria today,” he added.

In his response, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NASENI, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, applauded the ICPC for its proactive and committed approach to the partnership.

“ICPC has been one of the most proactive partners we’ve engaged with. Frankly speaking, there are times we reach out to agencies we wish to collaborate with, and we have to keep chasing them—despite the fact that they are the ones who would benefit more in the end,” Mr. Halilu noted.

He commended the technical teams of both ICPC and NASENI for their dedication in preparing the agreement, and pledged that his agency would ensure full implementation of the pact in the interest of national development.

The formal signing was witnessed by top management officials of both institutions, signaling the beginning of a strategic alliance to apply technological solutions in enhancing transparency, accountability, and good governance in Nigeria.
