…reiterates president’s commitment to addressing security issues

By Nkechi Eze

The Honourable Ministers of Defence, Alhaji Abubakar Badaru and Dr. Bello Matawalle, along with Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Christopher Gwabin Musa, paid a visit to frontline troops in North East Nigeria.

The purpose of the visit was to assess the security situation in Borno State and discuss the way forward with Governor Babagana Zulum.

Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau, Director Defence Information, disclosed in an official signed statement that during their meeting at the Borno State Government House, Minister Badaru assured the people of Borno State that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is committed to addressing security issues in the state and the nation. Governor Zulum thanked the ministers and CDS for their visit and pledged the state’s continuous support to the Federal Government and the Armed Forces of Nigeria in tackling security challenges.

The governor also requested additional support for Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) in terms of manpower and platforms to enhance their effectiveness. Furthermore, he emphasized the need to clear Lake Chad to utilize its potential and support the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

At the Headquarters of the Theatre Command of OPHK, the ministers and CDS received a briefing from outgoing Theatre Commander Major General Waidu Shaibu on operational activities, achievements, and challenges. CDS General Musa thanked officers and men of OPHK for their service and urged them to intensify efforts to address lingering security challenges in the North East.

In a separate engagement, Minister Badaru addressed troops at 212 Battalion Maiduguri, conveying President Tinubu’s appreciation for their service and assuring them that the administration would ensure their operational needs are met. This visit underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing security in the region and supporting the military’s efforts to tackle insurgency.
