The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede, has charged participants of the Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) Course 9/2025 to develop strategic solutions that will enhance military operations and contribute to national security.

He made this call while delivering a lecture at the College Lecture Hall in Asokoro, Abuja, on 18 March 2025.

Major Hshimu Sa’ad Abdullahi, the College Public Relations Officer in a signed statement disclosed that the COAS while speaking on the importance of leadership in military effectiveness, emphasized that leadership remains the cornerstone of a functional and efficient army.

He urged the participants to adopt an approach that prioritizes exemplary leadership, accountability, mutual trust, unity of purpose, and service above personal interest.

Furthermore, Lt Gen Oluyede underscored the significance of the Core Values of the Nigerian Army—loyalty, courage, integrity, discipline, selfless service, and respect for others.

He stressed that imbibing these values would enhance professionalism among officers, particularly in the areas of competence, adherence to basic soldiering principles, regimentation, and respect for the Army’s traditions and customs.

In his remarks, the Commandant AWCN, Major General Umar Mohammed Alkali, expressed profound appreciation to the COAS for his insightful lecture.

He noted that the lecture had broadened their understanding of leadership, operational efficiency, and national security imperatives. He further assured the COAS that the College remains committed to grooming well-rounded senior officers capable of addressing contemporary security challenges facing the nation.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of a souvenir to the COAS, followed by a group photograph with the members of faculty and participants, marking a memorable conclusion to the lecture.
