By Nkechi Eze

The Chief  of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa OFR has eulogized late Lieutenant General Jeremiah Timbut Useni (Rtd) CFR as an extraordinary man, a dedicated soldier, a statesman and a true patriot. The CDS stated this today, Thursday 20 February 2025 while attending the Service of Songs in  honour of the late General held at Church of Christ in Nation (COCIN) Headquarters, Jos.

A statement signed and made available to defence correspondents by the Director Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau disclosed that the CDS further stated that late General  Useni was not just a military officer but a symbol of excellence, discipline and service to our dear nation, Nigeria.

Adding that, his life which covered many spheres including the military and politics was a testament to the values of loyalty, courage and selflessness. Notably, as a military leader, General Useni played pivotal roles in shaping the Nigerian Army and contributed immensely to the stability of the country during challenging times. Also, while as the Military Governor of the old Bendel State and later the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, he showed commitment to nation building and development combined with rare  blend of firmness and compassion.

General Musa also described late General Useni as a philanthropic person and  devoted Christian who lived by the principles of love, humility and service to humanity. He therefore used the opportunity to extend his deepest  condolences to the late General Useni family, Armed Forces of Nigeria and entire  Good people of Plateau State.

He equally called for the remarkable life of the late General to be celebrated and his memory and legacy be honoured.

The CDS was accompanied to the Service of Songs by the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Chief of Defence Operations, Chief of Defence Logistics, the GOC 3 Armored Division and some Directors as well as senior officers from the Defence Headquarters, Abuja.
