Troops of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have repelled a terrorist ambush along the Anka–Guruzu Road in Zamfara State and recovered 520 livestock abandoned by fleeing terrorists in Sokoto State.
The troops also rescued two abducted herders during separate operations conducted on October 28, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to combat terrorism, protect lives and property, and restore security across the North-West.
According to an official statement signed by Captain Tamuno Sinivie, Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, troops of Sector 2 came under a coordinated ambush while conducting a fighting patrol to clear the Anka–Guruzu Road following reports of terrorist activities in the area.
The statement said the terrorists had positioned themselves on both sides of the road when they launched the attack, but the troops responded with overwhelming firepower, fought through the ambush and inflicted heavy casualties on the attackers.
The terrorists subsequently withdrew in disarray, while the troops maintained their operational momentum, secured the affected route and restored freedom of movement for commuters.
However, one soldier sustained a gunshot injury during the encounter and was promptly evacuated for medical attention. He was reported to be in stable condition.
In a separate operation in Sokoto State, troops foiled an attempt by terrorists to rustle livestock and abduct herders at Takasaba Village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area.
The troops reportedly acted on credible intelligence about terrorist activities in the area and swiftly mobilised to confront the attackers.
According to the statement, the troops engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to flee and abandon 520 livestock and two abducted herders.
The rescued victims were identified as Malam Sulaiman, 50, and Nasiru Sulaiman, 14. They were subsequently handed over to the Sabon Birni Local Government authorities.
The Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General W.B. Idris, commended the troops for their gallantry and fighting spirit, urging them to sustain the offensive against terrorist elements.
He reassured residents of the Joint Operations Area of the military’s commitment to restoring peace and security across the region.
