Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have overrun a Lakurawa terrorist enclave in Waria Forest, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, neutralising several terrorists and recovering weapons and five motorcycles.
The operation was conducted on October 15, 2026, during a clearance mission aimed at dismantling terrorist hideouts and denying the group freedom of action in the area.
According to an official statement signed by the Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops of Sector 2 advanced through identified terrorist enclaves along Alela, Bilange and Kandam villages towards Waria Forest, where they made contact with the terrorists.
The statement said troops engaged the terrorists in a firefight and overwhelmed them with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their positions and flee deeper into the forest.
The troops subsequently pursued the fleeing terrorists, neutralising some of them in the process.
Further exploitation of the area led to the destruction of the terrorists’ camps and life-support structures, while weapons and five motorcycles were recovered during the operation.
The Theatre Command said troops had maintained a strong operational presence in the area and continued clearance and domination operations to deny the terrorists safe havens and improve security in surrounding communities.
It added that the latest success underscored the commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to dismantling terrorist enclaves and restoring lasting peace and security across its Joint Operations Area.
The Theatre Command commended the troops for their courage, resilience and sustained operational efforts, while urging members of the public to support ongoing operations by providing timely and credible information about suspicious movements and activities in their communities.
