The National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barrister Murtala Aliyu Kankia, has intensified women’s mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, rallying support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda and other party candidates while advocating greater female representation in party leadership.
The initiative combines grassroots mobilisation for APC candidates with efforts to establish an organised women’s network across Katsina State, with local government structures expected to serve as the foundation for sustained political engagement.
At a gathering held at the Government Day Secondary School Assembly Hall, supporters endorsed Tinubu, Radda and other APC candidates expected to contest the 2027 elections.
In a related development, Kankia convened a meeting with local government coordinators at his residence in Kankia, directing them to establish inclusive organisational structures through the selection of executive members in their respective areas.
The APC National Legal Adviser disclosed that the coordinators had submitted lists of nominees as part of efforts to build the proposed statewide women’s network. However, the number of nominees and participating women was not specified.
Kankia emphasised that women should have a meaningful place in the party beyond election campaigns and voter mobilisation, calling for their greater involvement in decision-making processes.
He maintained that women’s contributions to the party should be recognised through opportunities for participation in leadership and organisational activities.
The proposed network is expected to provide a platform for coordinating grassroots engagement, community outreach and mobilisation in support of APC candidates across the state.
By placing local government coordinators at the centre of the initiative, the movement seeks to establish an organisational framework capable of connecting women across communities and sustaining political activities ahead of the 2027 polls.
The mobilisation drive also brings renewed attention to women’s representation within party structures, with the proposed inclusion of female executives expected to complement the APC’s electoral preparations.
The endorsement of Tinubu, Radda and other party candidates signals the political direction of the initiative, although the extent of grassroots support generated by the mobilisation has not been independently established.
The next phase will involve translating the submitted nominees’ lists into functioning structures with clearly defined responsibilities and sustained engagement across the state.
The initiative’s broader significance will depend on the extent to which the proposed network becomes operational and delivers meaningful participation for women in party leadership and decision-making ahead of the 2027 general elections.
