The National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barrister Murtala Aliyu Kankia, has stepped up political mobilisation in Katsina State, rallying women to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda and other party candidates in the 2027 general elections.
The initiative is also aimed at strengthening the role of women in the party’s political structures, with Kankia advocating greater inclusion in decision-making and grassroots leadership.
The mobilisation featured an endorsement gathering at the Government Day Secondary School Assembly Hall, where participants declared support for Tinubu’s second-term bid, Radda and other APC candidates expected to contest the 2027 elections.
As part of efforts to establish a coordinated network across the state, Kankia also hosted a meeting at his residence in Kankia, directing local government coordinators to constitute inclusive executive teams in their respective areas.
The coordinators have submitted lists of nominees for the proposed structure, marking an initial step towards organising women for sustained grassroots political engagement. The number of coordinators and nominees, however, was not made public.
The planned network is expected to strengthen community outreach, political participation and voter mobilisation in the build-up to the elections, with local government structures serving as the foundation for its operations.
Kankia’s initiative also highlights the demand for a more prominent place for women within the APC’s internal leadership and decision-making processes. The emphasis is on ensuring that women contribute to shaping party policies and strategies rather than being involved mainly during election campaigns.
The endorsement of Tinubu, Radda and other APC candidates provides the political focus for the mobilisation, as the party begins preparations for the next general elections.
However, the extent to which the initiative will influence electoral outcomes will depend on how effectively the proposed structures are established and sustained across the state, as well as whether the promised inclusion translates into meaningful roles for women within the party.
By placing grassroots coordinators at the centre of the effort, Kankia is seeking to build an organised women’s network that can support the APC’s electoral ambitions while expanding women’s participation in party affairs.
