Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has held talks with the Secretary General of the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL), Valdecy Urquiza, in Lyon, France, as Nigeria moves to deepen international cooperation in tackling transnational crime.
According to an official statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu, Disu made his maiden official visit to the INTERPOL General Secretariat on Monday, October 5, 2026.
The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in cybercrime, counter-terrorism, financial and organised crime, fugitive tracking and intelligence sharing.
The discussions also covered the effective use of INTERPOL databases and policing tools to support criminal intelligence analysis, cross-border investigations and efforts to disrupt transnational criminal networks.
The engagement provided an opportunity for Nigeria and INTERPOL to review the country’s participation in INTERPOL-supported initiatives and identify areas for further technical and operational collaboration.
Disu was accompanied by AIG Olaolu Adegbite, Head of INTERPOL Nigeria and the National Central Bureau, Abuja; AIG Ezima Akaninyene Ifem, Director, Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre; AIG Akoh Benedict Gabriel, Head, Nigeria Police Counter Terrorism Unit; and CP Ojajuni Olubode, INTERPOL Africa Committee Member.
The Nigeria Police Force said the visit underscored its commitment to strengthening cooperation with INTERPOL and other international law-enforcement partners.
The Force added that it would continue to leverage intelligence, technology and global policing capabilities to combat evolving security threats and prevent criminal networks from operating across borders.
