The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs Zubaida Umar, has called for sustained operational readiness among emergency responders to ensure timely and effective intervention whenever disasters occur.
Umar made the call on Saturday during a surprise visit to NEMA’s Emergency Response Bay on Bill Clinton Avenue, Airport Road, Abuja, where she inspected the condition of facilities and operational equipment and interacted with personnel on duty.
The visit, according to NEMA, was aimed at assessing the preparedness of the response bay and ensuring that critical facilities and equipment remain in optimal condition for immediate deployment during emergencies.
The NEMA DG stressed that emergency response requires constant preparedness, urging personnel to remain vigilant, dedicated and professional in the discharge of their responsibilities.
She also commended the personnel for their commitment to duty and reiterated the management’s determination to continually strengthen NEMA’s operational capabilities and provide the necessary support for effective emergency response.
Umar was accompanied on the visit by her Special Assistant, Hajiya Rakiya Bello Umar.
