The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has documented losses and assessed the humanitarian needs of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) affected by flooding in Dakwa, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Federal Capital Territory.
The assessment, conducted on September 22, 2026, by officials of NEMA’s Abuja Operations Office (AOO), was aimed at determining the extent of damage caused by the flood and gathering information to guide appropriate humanitarian support for affected households.
During the exercise, the NEMA assessment team interacted with residents and inspected affected homes, personal belongings and other essential facilities. The officials also documented reported losses and assessed the living conditions of households impacted by the disaster.
Particular attention was given to the challenges faced by Persons with Disabilities during emergencies, including mobility constraints and difficulties in accessing relief and other forms of assistance.
NEMA said the information gathered would help provide a clearer picture of the specific needs of the affected PWD community and inform subsequent response and humanitarian interventions.
The Agency also urged residents living in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant, monitor early warning information and take appropriate precautionary measures to reduce the impact of flooding.
The assessment is part of NEMA’s ongoing efforts to identify the needs of disaster-affected communities and ensure that vulnerable groups, particularly Persons with Disabilities, are adequately considered in emergency response and humanitarian interventions.
