The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has supported households affected by flooding in Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State with relief materials to cushion the impact of the disaster on victims.
The intervention, carried out through NEMA’s Uyo Operations Office, took place on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, and was flagged off on behalf of the Director-General of the Agency, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, by the Principal Relief and Rehabilitation Officer, Mr. Victor Akpakpan.
Akpakpan conveyed NEMA’s sympathy to the affected persons, saying the intervention reflected the Federal Government’s commitment to providing assistance to communities impacted by natural disasters.
He said the relief materials were intended to ease the immediate difficulties faced by the affected households and support their recovery from the effects of the flooding.
“The Federal Government, through NEMA, is concerned about the impact of the flood disaster on affected households and communities,” Akpakpan said.
He urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the materials, stressing the need for the assistance to reach its intended purpose.
The Vice Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area, Hon. Christiana Bassey Essien (JP), alongside community leaders, commended the Federal Government and NEMA for responding to the needs of residents affected by the flooding.
Essien said the intervention would provide meaningful assistance to households whose livelihoods had been disrupted by the disaster.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Chief Obot Etim and Madam Ekaette Etuk expressed appreciation to the Federal Government and NEMA for the relief materials.
They said the assistance would help affected families cope with the consequences of the flooding and reduce the pressure on their livelihoods.
The distribution exercise was witnessed by representatives of the Akwa Ibom State Emergency Management Agency (AKSEMA), Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Police Force (NPF), community leaders and other stakeholders.
