The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has honoured a retired Deputy Superintendent of Traffic (DST), Anifa Bello Abiodun, with an Award of Recognition and cash support for her outstanding service and dedication to duty.
According to an official statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the recognition was presented on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, where Disu commended the retired officer for her professionalism, discipline, resilience and commitment to traffic management during her years of service with the Ogun State Police Command, particularly in Abeokuta.
Throughout her career, Bello Abiodun distinguished herself through consistent dedication to duty and service to members of the public, earning the goodwill and appreciation of residents and road users in the communities where she served.
Her record of service culminated in public recognition of her contribution to traffic management and community policing, which the IGP said reflected the positive impact police personnel can make when they discharge their responsibilities professionally.
Speaking at the presentation, Disu noted that members of the public tend to appreciate the Police when officers conduct themselves professionally and responsibly, stressing that public dissatisfaction is often a consequence of individual misconduct rather than a reflection of the institution as a whole.
The IGP expressed satisfaction that the retired officer had earned the respect and recognition of the community she served, describing her example as worthy of encouragement within the Force.
He stressed that while the Nigeria Police Force would continue to hold personnel accountable for misconduct, it was equally important to recognise and reward officers who demonstrate professionalism, integrity and exemplary service.
According to him, such recognition would reinforce the values expected of police personnel and encourage others to distinguish themselves through dedication, discipline and responsible service.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to promoting accountability and rewarding exemplary conduct, while recognising personnel whose dedication to duty contributes to effective policing and strengthens public confidence in the Force.
