The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) have moved to strengthen intelligence sharing and joint operations as part of renewed efforts to tackle terrorism, banditry, insurgency and other emerging security threats across the country.
The resolve was reached on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, when the Chief of the Air Staff, Nigerian Air Force, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke paid a courtesy visit to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The meeting focused on deepening operational cooperation between the two institutions, particularly through improved intelligence exchange, coordinated tactical operations and enhanced deployment of aerial capabilities in support of policing activities.
Air Marshal Aneke commended the longstanding professional relationship between the NAF and NPF, especially the support provided by the Nigeria Police Force Air Wing to the Air Force.
He called for greater operational coordination between both institutions, stressing the need to expand intelligence sharing and maximise the use of air assets to support Police operations and strengthen responses to security threats.
The Air Chief said closer collaboration between the Police and Air Force would enhance their capacity to conduct aerial surveillance and reconnaissance, tactical deployments, medical evacuations and other operations requiring coordinated air and ground capabilities.
The discussions also examined joint training and coordinated responses to terrorism, banditry, insurgency and other violent crimes, with both sides emphasising the importance of seamless inter-agency cooperation.
Responding, IGP Disu reaffirmed the Police Force’s commitment to deepening its strategic partnership with the Nigerian Air Force through joint training, capacity building and intelligence-led operations.
The IGP stressed the need for effective command-and-control mechanisms, personnel welfare and coordinated security planning, particularly as the country prepares for major national events and the 2027 general elections.
He also called for stronger measures to protect critical national infrastructure, improved logistics and emergency response capabilities, as well as regular reviews of joint operations to identify gaps and enhance the effectiveness of inter-agency engagements.
The meeting was attended by senior officers from the Nigerian Air Force, including the Chief of Training, Air Vice Marshal A.Y. Dari; Chief of Operations, Air Vice Marshal P.N. Amadi; Chief of Air Intelligence, Air Vice Marshal N.N. Ananaba; Air Provost Marshal, Air Vice Marshal J.I. Ukeh; Chief of Administration, Air Vice Marshal A.A. Martins; Director of Operations, Air Vice Marshal A.O. Bamidele; Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore E.A. Ejodame; Principal Air Staff Officer to the CAS, Air Commodore H.I. Eze; and Principal Staff Officer Coordination to the CAS, Group Captain F.O. Olanrewaju.
The engagement reaffirmed the commitment of both security institutions to building a more integrated national security architecture based on intelligence-driven operations, joint planning and coordinated deployment of resources.
The Nigeria Police Force said it would continue to strengthen strategic partnerships with sister security agencies to improve its capacity to protect lives and property, safeguard critical national assets and respond effectively to evolving security challenges nationwide.
