The Nigerian Army has warned members of the public and the media to disregard suspicious, misleading or unauthorised content from its official Headquarters X account following an attempted cyber breach.
According to an official statement signed by Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director Army Public Relations, the attempted unauthorised access occurred at about 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026.
The Army said it detected the incident and immediately activated technical and protective measures to secure the account, prevent further unauthorised access and protect the integrity of information disseminated through the platform.
The military authorities said efforts were ongoing to fully secure the affected account and restore exclusive administrative control.
While the process is underway, the Army urged the public to exercise caution and disregard any suspicious, unauthorised, misleading or unverified content emanating from the affected account.
It stressed that any such content should not be regarded as representing the official position of the Nigerian Army.
The Army further advised members of the public and the media to verify information through its other official communication platforms pending the full resolution of the incident.
The alternative platforms include Facebook handles @hqnigerianarmy and @nigerianarmyinfo, Instagram handles @hqnigerianarmy and @nigerianarmyinfo, X handle @nigerianarmyinfo, as well as YouTube handles @hqnigerianarmy and @nigerianarmyinfotv.
The Army reaffirmed its commitment to information integrity, operational security and responsible strategic communication, while appreciating the vigilance and cooperation of the public.
It added that further updates would be provided as necessary.
