The National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barrister Murtala Aliyu Kankia, has congratulated the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, on her conferment with the traditional title of “Mairamar Kasar Hausa I”, meaning First Daughter of Hausa Land, by the Emir of Daura, Dr Umar Faruk Umar.

Kankia described the honour as a significant recognition of Musawa’s public profile and her contribution to the promotion and preservation of Hausa cultural heritage.

The APC National Legal Adviser said the conferment reflected the minister’s growing prominence and the confidence placed in her ability to project the history, traditions and cultural identity of the Hausa people.

According to Kankia, he had long anticipated that Musawa would occupy a position that would provide her with an opportunity to represent and promote the heritage of Hausa land on a broader platform.

He said the traditional title was particularly significant given Musawa’s current responsibility as Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, where she oversees key sectors connected to Nigeria’s cultural heritage, tourism and creative industries.

Kankia also recalled descriptions of Musawa as “Queen Amina of our time”, drawing a comparison with the legendary Hausa warrior queen, Amina of Zazzau.

He said the description reflected the expectations surrounding Musawa’s role in public service and her capacity to promote the cultural identity and heritage of the Hausa people.

The title was conferred on Musawa by the Emir of Daura, one of the prominent traditional institutions in northern Nigeria, in recognition of her standing and role in the promotion of cultural heritage.

Kankia urged the minister to regard the traditional honour as more than a personal achievement, but as a responsibility to preserve, promote and advance the heritage she has been entrusted to represent.

He expressed confidence that Musawa would use her position in government to further strengthen Nigeria’s cultural, tourism and creative sectors and increase their contribution to economic development.

The APC chieftain noted that the Federal Government’s growing emphasis on arts, culture, tourism and the creative economy provided an opportunity to leverage Nigeria’s rich cultural assets for job creation, economic diversification and national identity.

He therefore encouraged Musawa to continue championing initiatives that would project Hausa heritage and Nigeria’s diverse cultural identity while contributing to the development of the nation’s creative and tourism economy.
