The Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has mourned the death of veteran journalist and publisher of The Eagle Online, Mr Dotun Oladipo, describing his passing as a devastating loss to Nigerian journalism.
According to an official statement signed by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, NiDCOM, Oladipo died in Lagos on August 25, 2026, at the age of 56.
Dabiri-Erewa, in a condolence message, described the deceased as a fine journalist whose commitment to truth, accuracy and professionalism earned him the respect of colleagues across the media industry.
“I received the news of Dotun’s sudden passing with great shock and sadness. He was a fine journalist whose commitment to truth, accuracy and professionalism earned him the respect of colleagues across the industry,” she said.
The NiDCOM boss said Oladipo’s death was a painful reminder of the fragility of life, while extending her condolences to his family, colleagues and other associates.
Oladipo had a journalism career spanning nearly three decades across Nigeria’s traditional and digital media sectors. He began his career with the Nigerian Tribune before working with the Nigerian Compass, The Sun and Punch Newspapers, where he served as Political Editor.
In 2011, he founded The Eagle Online, where he served as publisher and managing editor, building the platform into a respected digital news organisation covering politics, business, sports and entertainment.
He also served as Chief Executive Officer of Premium Eagle Media Limited and was a former president of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), where he was later honoured as Emeritus President.
Oladipo was also the founding president of the Innovative Media Partners Cooperative Multipurpose Society (IMPCMS).
Dabiri-Erewa commended his contributions to the growth of professional online publishing in Nigeria, particularly his efforts in mentoring a new generation of digital journalists.
She prayed for the repose of his soul and for God to grant comfort to his family, friends and colleagues at The Eagle Online during the period of mourning.
