The Commander of the Mining Marshals of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Assistant Commandant of Corps (ACC) Attah John Onoja, has received a Meritorious Award for his outstanding service and contributions to the Corps’ mandate.

The award was presented to ACC Onoja by the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, during the Corps’ National Armourers Retreat and Symposium.

Onoja was recognised for his dedication, discipline, professionalism and commitment to national service, with the honour highlighting his leadership and contributions to the operational effectiveness of the Mining Marshals.

The recognition also underscored the role of the Mining Marshals in the fight against illegal mining, mineral theft and other economic crimes threatening Nigeria’s solid minerals sector.

Under Onoja’s leadership, the specialised unit has continued to intensify efforts to protect the nation’s mineral resources and support the Federal Government’s drive to sanitise the mining industry.

Speaking after receiving the award, Onoja expressed appreciation to the Commandant General for the recognition and the confidence reposed in him. He dedicated the honour to officers and personnel of the Mining Marshals, attributing the unit’s achievements to teamwork, resilience, loyalty and selfless service.

He pledged that the Mining Marshals would remain committed to the vision of the NSCDC leadership by intensifying operations against illegal mining and other activities capable of undermining the country’s mineral resources.

Onoja further emphasised the need for sustained vigilance and professionalism among personnel, stressing that protecting Nigeria’s mineral wealth requires collective commitment and dedication to national service.

The award, therefore, serves as both recognition of Onoja’s contributions and encouragement for the Mining Marshals to sustain their efforts in safeguarding the nation’s natural resources for present and future generations.
