The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday to mark this year’s Eid ul Mawlid, commemorating the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

The Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the holiday on behalf of the Federal Government while extending warm felicitations to Muslims in Nigeria and across the diaspora.

According to an official statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the minister urged Nigerians to use the occasion to reflect on the values of compassion, humility and service to humanity.

“Every Eid ul Mawlid gives us reason to pause and draw lessons from a life defined by compassion, humility and service to others,” Tunji-Ojo said.

He urged all Nigerians, irrespective of religious affiliation, to reflect on these values, noting that they were needed to strengthen the country at this time.

The minister also called on citizens to use the celebration as an opportunity for collective prayers for peace and national cohesion, stressing that the responsibility for maintaining unity rests on all Nigerians.

Tunji-Ojo urged Muslims and other citizens to celebrate with restraint and mutual respect, while wishing the Muslim community a joyous and peaceful Eid ul Mawlid.

He further reaffirmed the commitment of the administration to safeguarding lives and property across the country and ensuring that peace is maintained.
