Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party has secured a second term as Governor of Osun State, defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), by 66,252 votes.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke the winner at the state collation centre in Osogbo on Saturday night after results from all 30 local government areas were collated.
The Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Joshua, announced that Adeleke polled 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji secured 444,815 votes.
Adeleke’s victory gives him another four years to lead the state after his first-term administration secured the support of the electorate in the governorship poll.
Speaking shortly after his declaration, Adeleke thanked the people of Osun State for renewing his mandate, describing the outcome as a reflection of their confidence in his administration.
The governor also disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, had called to congratulate him on his victory.
Adeleke called for unity and reconciliation following the election, saying he was prepared to work with all the candidates who contested the poll against him.
“There is no winner, no vanquished in this election,” he said, pledging to run an inclusive government that would carry all sections of the state along.
He also expressed hope that Oyebamiji would congratulate him, noting that such a gesture would strengthen democracy and promote unity in Osun.
The governor said his second-term administration would focus on transforming Osun from a civil service-driven economy into an industrialised state.
“The next phase of our development is to take Osun from a civil servant state to an industrialized state. We will attract investments, support small businesses, and create jobs for our youths,” Adeleke said.
He thanked God and dedicated the victory to the people of Osun, while urging residents to remain peaceful as the state prepares for the next phase of governance.
