President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has mandated a high-powered Federal Government delegation led by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, to promote Nigeria’s investment opportunities at the inaugural Nigeria Diaspora Investment Economic Conference (NIDEC) in Canada.
The conference, themed “Invest Nigeria, Thrive Abroad,” is scheduled to hold from August 12 to 15, 2026, in Toronto, Canada, bringing together Nigerian and Canadian government officials, investors and other stakeholders to strengthen economic cooperation between both countries.
According to an official statement signed by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), the Chairman/CEO of the Commission, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said the high-level Nigerian delegation reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to promoting trade, investment and economic cooperation with Canada.
She said NIDEC 2026 was designed as an outcome-driven investment platform that would connect international investors with viable opportunities in Nigeria while strengthening bilateral economic relations between the two countries.
The Nigerian delegation includes the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; Minister of Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole; and Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
Also participating are the Executive Governors of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Soludo; Borno State, Prof. Babagana Zulum; Kaduna State, Sen. Uba Sani; Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang; and Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal.
Other members of the delegation include Sen. Ita Enang; representatives of the Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Revenue Service and the Central Bank of Nigeria; as well as the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), Aisha Rimi; Executive Director of the Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Nonye Ayeni; and Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi.
The Canadian delegation is expected to include senior government officials and representatives from Ontario and the City of Brampton, including Hon. Shafqat Ali, President of the Treasury Board of Canada; Hon. Graham McGregor, Ontario Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism; Hon. Deepak Anand, Member of the Ontario Provincial Parliament for Mississauga-Malton; and Mayor Patrick Brown of Brampton.
The conference is being organised by NiDCOM in collaboration with the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa, the Canadian High Commission in Abuja and other national and international stakeholders.
The organisers said the investment platform would focus on high-impact sectors considered critical to Nigeria’s future economic growth and development, providing opportunities for global investors to explore investment-ready projects and partnerships in the country.
NIDEC 2026 is also expected to leverage the Nigerian diaspora in Canada as a bridge for increased investment, business partnerships and stronger economic ties between Nigeria and Canada.
