The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the Federal Character Commission (FCC) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration in promoting equity, fairness and national unity through the effective implementation of the Federal Character Principle.
According to an official statement signed by the Director, Information and Public Relations of the NYSC, Caroline Embu, the renewed commitment was made during a courtesy visit by the Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, to the Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission, Hon. Hulayat Motunrayo Omidiran, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
During the meeting, General Nafiu described the mandates of the NYSC and the FCC as complementary, noting that both institutions are dedicated to fostering national integration, inclusiveness and equal opportunities for all Nigerians.
He commended the Commission for its sustained efforts in ensuring fairness in recruitment, appointments, promotions and the equitable distribution of personnel across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.
The NYSC Director General also reaffirmed the Scheme’s commitment to complying fully with the Federal Character Principle, stressing that it remains a vital instrument for ensuring balanced representation of Nigerians across states, geopolitical zones, ethnic groups and religious backgrounds.
General Nafiu pledged that the NYSC would continue to work closely with the Commission in implementing extant guidelines on personnel placement and other matters relating to equitable representation in the public service.
Responding, the Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission, Hon. Hulayat Motunrayo Omidiran, said the Commission remains committed to promoting fairness and inclusiveness in government institutions through the equitable representation of all segments of the Nigerian federation.
She called on ministries, departments and agencies to adhere strictly to the Commission’s policies and guidelines in order to strengthen public confidence in government institutions and prevent feelings of marginalisation.
Earlier, General Nafiu met with the FCC Committee on Social Development, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, chaired by the Federal Commissioner representing Plateau State, Hon. Pam Bot-Mang.
The interactive session focused on enhancing cooperation between both institutions and advancing equity in recruitment, postings, promotions and appointments across government establishments as part of efforts to strengthen national unity and inclusive governance.
