The Nigeria Police Force has appointed Commissioner of Police Samuel Erale Etaifo as the Commissioner of Police (Elections) for the forthcoming Osun State governorship election, reinforcing its security preparations ahead of the poll.
According to an official statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, anipr, the appointment is part of the Force’s comprehensive election security strategy aimed at ensuring a peaceful, secure and credible electoral process in the state.
The statement said CP Etaifo will coordinate and oversee all election security operations across Osun State, working closely with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to protect voters, election officials and sensitive electoral materials throughout the exercise.
It, however, clarified that the Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, CP Ibrahim Gotan, remains the substantive head of the State Command and will continue to supervise routine policing activities while providing the necessary administrative and operational support to the Commissioner of Police (Elections).
The Police also directed all personnel deployed for election duties to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, neutrality and discipline, stressing the importance of strict adherence to the law and the Code of Conduct for Security Personnel on Electoral Duty.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu urged residents of Osun State, political parties, candidates and other stakeholders to remain peaceful, law-abiding and cooperate fully with security agencies to ensure a safe, credible and successful governorship election.
