The Federal Government has appointed substantive provosts for three Federal Colleges of Agriculture as part of efforts to strengthen agricultural education, research and capacity development in support of national food security.
According to an official statement signed by Khadijat O. Ameen, Public Relations Officer to the Executive Secretary of the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN), the appointments were approved by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abba Kyari, following a rigorous selection process that included examinations and interviews conducted by the governing council.
The newly appointed provosts are Dr. Folorunsho Rasheed Oloyede for the Federal College of Agriculture, Akure; Dr. Salisu Salisu for the Federal College of Agriculture and Produce Technology, Kano; and Dr. Umar Umar Abdullahi for the Federal College of Horticulture, Dadin Kowa, Gombe State.
Presenting the letters of appointment, the Executive Secretary of ARCN, Dr. Adamu Abubakar Dabban, urged the new provosts to align their leadership with the food security agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He charged them to transform their respective institutions into centres of excellence for agricultural education and innovation while promoting professionalism, diligence and accountability in the discharge of their responsibilities.
Dabban also encouraged the appointees to pursue ambitious programmes aimed at improving institutional governance, expanding research capacity, strengthening collaboration with stakeholders, enhancing staff welfare and advancing Nigeria’s National Agricultural Research System.
He expressed confidence that the appointments would contribute to the Federal Government’s efforts to build a more resilient agricultural sector capable of supporting sustainable food production and national development.
