The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to strengthening the welfare of its personnel, emphasizing that improved support for officers and their families remains essential to enhancing morale and operational effectiveness.
The IGP gave the assurance while receiving the President of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), Mrs. Mernan Femi Oluyede, and a high-level delegation on a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The delegation included the President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Chief Mrs. Mutiat Disu; the President of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), Mrs. Safiya Shuaibu; the President of the Naval Officers’ Wives Association (NOWA), Mrs. Aisha Idi Abbas; the President of the Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association (NAFOWA), Mrs. Ngozi Aneke; and the Coordinator of the Defence Intelligence Agency Wives Association, Mrs. Jane Undiandeye.
During the meeting, discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and DEPOWA in advancing the association’s mandate of improving the welfare and well-being of officers and their families.
The IGP described DEPOWA as a critical support platform for security personnel, commending the association for its sustained efforts in complementing initiatives aimed at improving the lives of officers across the nation’s security architecture.
Disu reiterated the Force’s resolve to sustain and expand welfare programmes, with particular emphasis on economic empowerment, psychosocial support, access to quality healthcare and educational opportunities for personnel and their families.
He noted that improved welfare remains a key component of the Police Force’s broader reform agenda, stressing that a motivated workforce is better positioned to deliver effective policing and enhance national security.
The Inspector-General also expressed appreciation to DEPOWA and other officers’ wives associations for their continued commitment to supporting members of the armed forces and other security agencies, describing their contributions as invaluable to the overall welfare of personnel and the effectiveness of security institutions.
