Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued kidnapped victims, foiled an attempted abduction and arrested suspected terrorist logistics suppliers with 10 motorcycles during coordinated operations conducted across Zamfara, Katsina and Kebbi States.
According to an official signed statement by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the operations, carried out on July 19 and 20, 2026, recorded significant successes as troops sustained offensive pressure on terrorist groups operating across the North-West.
The statement disclosed that on July 20, troops responded swiftly to a distress call from residents of Shiyan Abiyola in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, where terrorists had attempted to abduct civilians from a residence.
It said the prompt intervention of the troops forced the terrorists to abandon the operation and flee, leading to the successful rescue of several residents. Troops subsequently dominated the area to prevent any further threat and reassure the community.
In a separate operation on July 19, troops on patrol in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State rescued three kidnapped victims who escaped from a terrorist hideout during a heavy downpour while their captors were asleep.
According to the statement, the victims had been abducted on July 14 while working on their farms in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State. They were later handed over to the appropriate authorities for reunification with their families.
The statement further revealed that troops also intercepted a vehicle conveying 10 motorcycles suspected to be intended for terrorist elements during a routine stop-and-search operation in Kebbi State on the same day.
Preliminary investigations, it added, led to the arrest of four additional suspects believed to have been sent to receive the motorcycles on behalf of a known terrorist collaborator. The suspects and the recovered motorcycles remain in military custody for further investigation and necessary action.
The Theatre Command commended the troops for their vigilance, professionalism and swift response, noting that the operations denied terrorists freedom of action while further disrupting their logistics network.
It also expressed appreciation to members of the public for their continued support and timely provision of credible intelligence, urging citizens to remain vigilant and sustain cooperation with security agencies as ongoing operations continue to degrade terrorist and criminal networks across the North-West.
