The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to equitable infrastructure development across Nigeria, assuring that the Renewed Hope administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is ensuring that no state is left behind in the execution of road and bridge projects.
According to an official statement signed by Mohammed A. Ahmed, Director, Information and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Works, it was disclosed that the Minister gave the assurance during a meeting with the Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, where both leaders discussed strategic road sector development and ongoing infrastructure projects in the state.
Umahi stated that President Tinubu has demonstrated fairness in the distribution of federal road projects across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, noting that states and communities which previously received little or no federal road intervention are now benefiting from major infrastructure investments.
The Minister recalled that during his eight-year tenure as Governor of Ebonyi State, there were no significant federal road projects in the state, adding that Ekiti and several other states experienced similar neglect. He commended President Tinubu for changing the narrative through an inclusive approach to national infrastructure development.
He assured the Ekiti State Government that all existing federal road contracts in the state would be executed strictly in accordance with engineering standards and measurements. Umahi explained that contractors handling the projects were selected through transparent processes in line with the Public Procurement Act and pledged that the state government would be kept fully informed to facilitate effective monitoring of project implementation.
The Minister further reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to delivering durable and high-quality road infrastructure that will improve connectivity, stimulate economic activities and advance the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu.
Governor Oyebanji, on his part, expressed profound appreciation to President Tinubu and the Minister for the numerous road infrastructure interventions in Ekiti State.
He recalled that following his appeal to the President through the Minister, approval was granted for the reconstruction of the Ado–Iyin–Aramoko Road, a project that had remained uncompleted for several years despite repeated promises by previous administrations. According to the Governor, contractors were mobilised to the site within weeks of the approval, demonstrating the Federal Government’s commitment to prompt project execution.
Oyebanji noted that the swift commencement of the project generated widespread appreciation among the people of Ekiti State and strengthened public confidence in the Federal Government’s commitment to infrastructure development.
He also thanked President Tinubu for approving the construction of the Ado–Ijan–Ikole Road, describing it as another strategic route that will significantly improve transportation, boost economic activities and enhance connectivity within the state and beyond.
The Governor stated that since the creation of Ekiti State nearly three decades ago, no administration has demonstrated such a remarkable commitment to the state’s infrastructure development as the current Federal Government. He added that the people of Ekiti now have a renewed sense of belonging as a result of the numerous interventions in road infrastructure and other critical sectors.
Describing his visit to the Ministry as one of appreciation, Oyebanji conveyed the gratitude of the people of Ekiti State to President Tinubu and the Minister for their commitment to transforming the nation’s road infrastructure.
The meeting underscored the strong collaboration between the Federal Government and the Ekiti State Government in advancing strategic infrastructure projects aimed at promoting economic growth and improving the welfare of Nigerians.
