Two Senior Terrorist Commanders Surrender, Provide Valuable Intelligence to Troops

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have recorded another major success in the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign in the North East following the surrender of two senior terrorist commanders to troops of Sector 2 in Geidam, Yobe State.

According to an official signed statement by the Acting Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, the two commanders, identified as Munzirs within the terrorist leadership structure, surrendered to troops on 4 July 2026. They arrived in Maiduguri at about 7:30 p.m. on 5 July 2026 and are currently in military custody undergoing detailed profiling, debriefing and intelligence exploitation.

Captain Goni disclosed that preliminary interrogation revealed that the surrendered commanders occupied influential positions within the terrorist hierarchy and possess extensive knowledge of the group’s operational activities, command structure and logistics network.

He noted that intelligence gathered from the ongoing debriefing has already provided valuable insights into the terrorists’ operational methods, sustainment mechanisms and support networks. The information, he said, is expected to strengthen ongoing intelligence-led operations aimed at locating, disrupting and dismantling remaining terrorist enclaves across the North East theatre.

The statement described the surrender as another major setback for the terrorist group, attributing it to the sustained offensive operations being carried out by Operation HADIN KAI in collaboration with partner security agencies.

It explained that the sustained military pressure, backed by coordinated land and air operations as well as enhanced intelligence efforts, continues to deny terrorists freedom of movement, degrade their combat capability and weaken their command and control structures, forcing many leaders and fighters to abandon the insurgency and surrender.

Captain Goni further stated that the latest surrender reflects the growing disintegration of the terrorist organisation and underscores the cumulative impact of sustained military operations across the theatre.

He reaffirmed that Operation HADIN KAI remains committed to sustaining the operational momentum until all terrorist elements are neutralised or compelled to surrender, adding that troops will continue to exploit actionable intelligence, intensify offensive operations and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to eliminate the terrorist threat and restore lasting peace, security and stability across the North East.
