The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and Cosmopolitan University have agreed to strengthen collaboration in the development of innovative technologies aimed at promoting climate-smart solutions, digital agriculture and artificial intelligence (AI)-driven research.
According to an official signed statement by the management of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Agency, Professor Charles Anosike, announced the partnership during a courtesy visit by the Vice-Chancellor of Cosmopolitan University, Professor Carl Adams, to the Agency’s headquarters on Monday.
Speaking during the meeting, Professor Anosike highlighted the shared vision of both institutions in translating scientific research into practical solutions that address societal challenges. He noted that NiMet, as a public institution, has continued to make significant strides in producing research and scientific publications that support national development and improve the wellbeing of citizens.
The Director General commended Cosmopolitan University for embracing emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, to promote climate-ready and climate-resilient communities, describing the initiative as a critical step towards addressing the growing impacts of climate change.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of Cosmopolitan University, Professor Carl Adams, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to developing the next generation of indigenous AI scientists and advancing climate-smart innovations powered by satellite data and artificial intelligence applications.
Both institutions agreed to formalise their partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which will focus on multidisciplinary research in climate-smart and digital agriculture for smallholder farmers, aviation research, staff exchange programmes, data analytics, AI applications and the use of meteorological information to improve livelihoods and support sustainable development.
The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied on the visit by the Pro-Chancellor of the University and other members of the institution’s senior management team.
