The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has held a strategic meeting with the President of San José State University (SJSU), USA, Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson, to explore partnerships aimed at strengthening educational, technological and cultural collaboration between Nigeria and the United States.

The high-level engagement focused on initiatives designed to expand opportunities for Nigerian students and professionals while deepening ties between Nigeria and one of the world’s leading innovation ecosystems.

A major highlight of the discussions was the proposed Silicon Valley Tech Bridge initiative, a specialised summer programme at San José State University that will expose young Nigerians to emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, semiconductors and medical devices.

The programme is expected to combine intensive academic learning with practical industry experience at leading global technology companies such as Adobe, LinkedIn and Jabil during Black Engineer Week, while also creating networking opportunities with members of the Nigerian diaspora community in the United States.

The meeting also explored the establishment of a Fulbright Leadership Exchange programme to strengthen academic and professional collaboration between both countries.

In addition, both leaders discussed initiatives to promote Nigerian culture through the creation of cultural murals within the university community, further showcasing Nigeria’s rich heritage and strengthening cultural exchange.

The proposed collaboration reflects NIDCOM’s continued commitment to leveraging the expertise and networks of Nigerians in the diaspora to build human capital, expand global partnerships and create sustainable opportunities that will benefit the country’s development.
