The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) men’s and women’s volleyball teams delivered impressive performances at the ongoing 3rd Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) Volleyball Premier League in Abuja, recording crucial victories to strengthen their pursuit of league honours as the first phase of the competition approaches its conclusion.
The championship, which was preceded by a technical meeting on 15 June, officially commenced on 16 June 2026 and has continued to showcase high-quality volleyball, with the Nigeria Customs Service emerging as one of the competition’s standout teams.
In one of the tournament’s most anticipated fixtures, the Customs men’s team staged a remarkable comeback to defeat defending champions, Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Spikers, 3-1 after dropping the opening set. The team rallied from a 21-25 first-set defeat to claim the next three sets 25-22, 25-19 and 25-15, securing a morale-boosting victory that further cemented its status as a leading contender for the title.
The latest triumph came on the heels of another significant result in which the Customs side ended the unbeaten run of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Spikers, underlining the team’s growing dominance in the competition.
The Nigeria Customs Service women’s team, the defending champions, also maintained their outstanding form with a convincing straight-set victory over Olalomi Royal Angels. The champions outclassed their opponents 25-18, 25-22 and 25-7 to remain firmly on course for a successful title defence.
Speaking after the victories, the Customs Sports Secretary, Superintendent of Customs Samuel Onikeku, attributed the teams’ impressive performances to the sustained investment of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, and the Service’s management in the development of players and coaches.
He explained that the Nigeria Customs Service has consistently invested in advanced coaching programmes while providing opportunities for its athletes to participate in major international competitions, including tournaments in Kigali and Zone 3 championships.
According to him, the strategic investments are beginning to yield tangible results.
“Our goal is to conquer Africa. We are building a team that can compete at the continental level, and every phase of this league is part of that journey,” Onikeku said.
As the first phase of the 3rd Comptroller-General of Customs Volleyball Premier League draws to a close, both the men’s and women’s teams of the Nigeria Customs Service remain firmly in contention for the league titles, with their recent performances sending a strong statement of intent to their rivals ahead of the next stage of the championship.
