The Executive Director of the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) and Head of Transparency International Nigeria (TI-Nigeria), Comrade Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, has mourned the death of the Group Business Editor of Daily Independent Newspapers, Mr. Sylvester Enoghase.
In a statement personally signed by him, Rafsanjani described the late journalist as a dedicated media professional and a friend whose commitment to ethical journalism and public-interest reporting left an enduring impact on the Nigerian media landscape.
Mr. Enoghase was also the Labour Editor of Daily Independent Newspapers and was widely respected for his insightful reporting, unwavering dedication to the journalism profession, and steadfast advocacy for workers’ rights and social justice in the country.
Rafsanjani noted that Enoghase distinguished himself through his professionalism, integrity, and commitment to informing the public on critical economic, business, and labour-related issues. He said the late journalist’s work contributed significantly to promoting informed public discourse and strengthening democratic accountability.
“Mr. Enoghase was a thorough and principled journalist whose passion for truth, fairness, and responsible reporting earned him the respect of colleagues and stakeholders across different sectors. His contributions to journalism and national development will not be forgotten,” Rafsanjani stated.
He further acknowledged Enoghase’s service as a former Chairman of the Labour Writers Association of Nigeria (LAWAN), describing his leadership as instrumental in advancing professionalism and cooperation among journalists covering labour and employment matters.
According to Rafsanjani, the late journalist maintained a cordial relationship with civil society organisations and consistently demonstrated a willingness to engage on issues affecting governance, transparency, accountability, and the welfare of ordinary citizens.
“His death is a painful loss to the journalism profession and to all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him. He will be remembered for his dedication, humility, and commitment to public service through journalism,” he added.
Rafsanjani extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, the management and staff of Daily Independent Newspapers, members of the Labour Writers Association of Nigeria, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), and the broader media community.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of Enoghase’s soul and for God to grant his family, friends, and colleagues the strength to bear the loss.
