The Honourable Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi, has said that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal SuperHighway is attracting growing international recognition, with one of its major financiers receiving a global award for supporting the landmark infrastructure project championed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to an official signed statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the Honourable Minister of Works on Media, Francis Nwaze, Umahi made the disclosure during an inspection of Section Two of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal SuperHighway in Epe, Lagos State, on Friday, June 19, 2026.

The Minister stated that the project has continued to earn commendation from international financial institutions, foreign governments and infrastructure experts due to its engineering quality and strategic economic significance.

He revealed that Deutsche Bank, which led the funding of 70 per cent of Sections One and Two of the highway, described the project as undervalued when assessed against the quality of construction being delivered.

Umahi quoted the bank as saying that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal SuperHighway project was undervalued, adding that the quality of work being executed on the project was exceptional.

The Minister further disclosed that the project has become a destination for international stakeholders seeking to study the engineering standards and construction methods being deployed on the coastal corridor.

He noted that officials from abroad, including the California Transport Minister, as well as representatives from neighbouring countries, have shown interest in inspecting the project to assess its quality and execution.

Highlighting the project’s increasing international profile, Umahi announced that First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB), one of the institutions involved in financing the highway, was recently honoured at the ongoing IsDB Group Annual Meetings 2026 in Baku, Azerbaijan, for its participation in the project.

According to him, the bank received the award after contributing 656 million United States dollars towards the financing of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal SuperHighway, which he described as an innovative infrastructure initiative of President Tinubu.

The Minister said the recognition further demonstrates the confidence of international investors in the project and reinforces the Federal Government’s commitment to delivering transformative infrastructure capable of driving economic growth and national development.

While acknowledging the right of citizens to express differing opinions on government projects, Umahi urged critics to ensure their comments are constructive and based on accurate information.

He stressed the importance of informed public discourse, cautioning against criticisms founded on inadequate knowledge of the project.

Umahi also reaffirmed his commitment to transparency, accountability and effective supervision of federal infrastructure projects, noting that his responsibilities are guided by faith in God, service to the Nigerian people and dedication to the development agenda of President Tinubu.

The Minister stated that he remains conscious of his duty to deliver projects that will stand the test of time and for which he would ultimately be accountable both to the nation and before God.
