The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has reaffirmed its commitment to international peacekeeping operations and global security as it joined the international community in commemorating the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers.
According to an official signed statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, paid tribute to peacekeepers worldwide for their courage, professionalism, sacrifice, and dedication to the promotion of peace and security across the globe.
In his message to mark the occasion on June 17, 2026, the Inspector-General honoured the memory of peacekeepers who lost their lives while serving under the United Nations flag, describing their sacrifices as a lasting source of inspiration in the collective pursuit of a safer and more peaceful world.
IGP Disu highlighted Nigeria’s longstanding contributions to international peace support operations, noting that officers of the Nigeria Police Force have distinguished themselves in numerous United Nations, African Union, and regional peacekeeping missions.
He stated that Nigerian police personnel deployed to conflict and post-conflict environments have consistently demonstrated professionalism, expertise, and commitment, thereby strengthening Nigeria’s standing as a responsible contributor to international peace and security.
Speaking on the theme of this year’s commemoration, “Invest in Peace,” the Inspector-General stressed the importance of sustained investment in peacebuilding initiatives, institutional development, technology, and international cooperation.
He observed that emerging security threats such as terrorism, transnational organised crime, cyber-enabled offences, communal conflicts, and violent extremism require innovative, coordinated, and collaborative responses from the global community.
The police chief further emphasised the need to provide peacekeepers with advanced training, modern technology, operational resources, and specialised skills to effectively address evolving security challenges across different theatres of operation.
He also acknowledged the significant contributions of female peacekeepers to global peace efforts and advocated greater participation and leadership opportunities for women in peace operations.
While commending peacekeepers and their families for their sacrifices and dedication, IGP Disu reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s resolve to strengthen its peacekeeping capabilities and support initiatives aimed at promoting international peace, security, and stability.
The Force reiterated its commitment to professionalism, capacity development, and strategic global partnerships in support of sustainable peace and effective peacekeeping operations worldwide.
