The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has carried out a rapid assessment of the passenger train incident that occurred along the Agbor axis of Delta State, as emergency responders continue efforts to support affected passengers and monitor the situation.
In an official signed statement, NEMA disclosed that its Emergency Response Team, deployed immediately after the incident, visited the accident scene and hospitals where injured passengers were evacuated for medical treatment.
The assessment team was led by the Head of NEMA’s Benin Operations Office, Mr. Kenoma Ojuederie, who coordinated response activities alongside the Delta State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and other key stakeholders.
According to the statement, the operation involved close collaboration with the Nigerian Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), and other relevant agencies to assess the impact of the incident and support ongoing response efforts.
NEMA stated that it remains committed to working closely with the Delta State Government, emergency response agencies, security services, health authorities, and humanitarian partners to provide necessary assistance to affected passengers and their families.
The agency added that it would continue to monitor developments arising from the incident while coordinating support measures aimed at addressing the immediate needs of those affected.
