Troops of the Joint Task Force North Central Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD (OPSS) have rescued two kidnap victims during a security operation in Kwara State, reinforcing ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities and enhance security across the region.

The rescue was carried out on June 3, 2026, when troops deployed at Patrol Base Babasango embarked on an aggressive fighting patrol to Gidan Dogo Ekaa. During the operation, the troops encountered and secured two civilians who had escaped from the custody of their abductors.

The rescued victims were identified as Mr Temitope Samuel, 42, and Mr Mohammed Sani, 40. Following their recovery, the troops immediately took them into protective custody and transported them to Patrol Base Babanla for medical attention and other necessary support services.

Military authorities disclosed that the victims are currently receiving comprehensive medical care, psychological support, and other forms of assistance to aid their recovery. Arrangements are also being made to reunite them with their families.

The successful rescue operation underscores the sustained efforts of troops under Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD to dismantle criminal networks and deny kidnappers freedom of action within their areas of responsibility.

The Nigerian Army commended the troops for their courage, professionalism, and swift response, noting that intelligence-led operations remain central to ongoing efforts to safeguard lives and property across the North Central region.

The Army also urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information capable of enhancing ongoing operations against criminal elements and other security threats.
