The Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to national development through enhanced collaboration with Nigeria’s creative industry, describing it as a key driver of public enlightenment, policy communication and national security awareness.

According to an official signed statement by the Head, Press and Public Relations, Mary Ali, Dr. Tunji-Ojo made this known during a courtesy visit by the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Mr. Emeka Rollas, and his delegation at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja on Thursday.

The Minister underscored the strategic importance of advocacy, education and public sensitisation in building a safer and more united Nigeria, noting that the creative sector remains critical in shaping public understanding of government reforms and countering misinformation.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo congratulated Mr. Rollas on his successful re-election as President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, commending his leadership and contributions to the growth of the creative industry. He stressed that closer collaboration between government and creative professionals would strengthen national messaging and enhance civic responsibility.

Highlighting ongoing reforms within the Ministry, the Minister disclosed significant progress in Nigeria’s correctional services, noting a marked reduction in recidivism from about 13,000 cases in 2023 to approximately 1,000 by 2025. He attributed the development to sustained investments in skills acquisition, vocational training, education and rehabilitation programmes across correctional centres.

He described the country’s correctional facilities as increasingly transformational institutions focused on rehabilitation and reintegration rather than punishment alone.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo also pointed to improvements in passport administration, immigration services, fire safety and civil defence operations, stating that these reforms reflect the government’s determination to address longstanding challenges and deliver measurable results.

He emphasised that leadership must be defined by problem-solving and resilience, adding that governance should be driven by the pursuit of practical solutions rather than an acceptance of obstacles.

The Minister further called on the creative industry to continue to serve as responsible partners in national development by promoting unity, peace and accurate public information.

In his remarks, Mr. Emeka Rollas commended the Federal Government for its efforts in addressing security and development challenges, while reaffirming the commitment of the creative industry to support national initiatives that promote unity, peace and responsible citizenship.

Both parties expressed optimism about a strengthened partnership aimed at advancing national development and improving public awareness on government policies and reforms.
