The Federal Government of Nigeria and the Republic of Poland have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation in security, technology, trade and economic development following high-level talks between the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister, Krzysztof Gawkowski, in Abuja.
According to an official signed statement by Head, Press and Public Relations, Mrs Mary Ali, the meeting, which was held at the Ministry of Interior headquarters, also had in attendance the Polish Ambassador to Nigeria, Michal Cygan, alongside members of the Polish delegation.
Welcoming the delegation, the Minister described the visit as a major milestone in advancing relations between both countries, stressing that it marked the beginning of a stronger and more strategic partnership between Nigeria and Poland.
Dr Tunji-Ojo said Nigeria remained committed to collaboration, mutual learning and shared development, noting that both nations possess unique strengths capable of addressing common challenges and unlocking new opportunities for growth.
“This visit isn’t just another diplomatic meeting. It’s building the foundation for a sustainable and mutually beneficial relationship between Nigeria and Poland,” the Minister stated.
Discussions during the meeting focused on expanding cooperation in critical areas including border management, internal security systems, cybersecurity, technology transfer, innovation and institutional capacity development.
The Minister expressed Nigeria’s interest in leveraging Poland’s expertise in security technology and innovation through technical partnerships, investments and knowledge exchange programmes.
He also welcomed ongoing diplomatic engagements between both countries and disclosed plans for an official visit to Poland in the near future to further discussions with Polish government institutions and business leaders operating in the security and internal affairs sectors.
Dr Tunji-Ojo reiterated Nigeria’s readiness for international investments and strategic partnerships, highlighting ongoing economic reforms introduced by the Federal Government, including exchange rate unification, measures to curb inflation and the removal of fuel subsidies aimed at repositioning the economy and boosting investor confidence.
“We look forward to formalising our cooperation through official agreements and building practical solutions that will benefit both countries,” he added.
Earlier, Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister, Krzysztof Gawkowski, commended the warm reception accorded his delegation and praised the growing momentum in Nigerian-Polish relations.
He described Nigeria as a country with enormous economic, demographic and technological potential, identifying it as a strategic partner for long-term cooperation.
Gawkowski stated that Poland was prepared to support Nigeria through its expertise in innovation, digitalisation, infrastructure development and advanced technologies.
The Deputy Prime Minister also formally invited the Nigerian Interior Minister to visit Poland, expressing optimism that sustained engagements would create fresh opportunities for collaboration between government institutions and private sector stakeholders in both countries.
He further acknowledged ongoing improvements in Nigeria’s internal security architecture, noting that the sector presents significant prospects for future cooperation between both nations.
The meeting is expected to further strengthen diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and Poland as both countries seek to build a productive and enduring partnership anchored on mutual growth and shared interests.
