The Defence Headquarters (DHQ), in close coordination with the United States Africa Command, has intensified coordinated military operations against ISIS terrorists in Nigeria’s North-East, with fresh air strikes successfully carried out in the general area of Metele, Borno State.
According to an official signed statement by Major General Samaila Uba, Director, Defence Information, the latest operations targeted terrorist elements observed converging and relocating within the area.
He disclosed that multiple air strikes conducted during the operation led to the elimination of more than 20 ISIS/ISWAP fighters.
Major General Uba stated that the ongoing offensive follows the recent neutralisation of notorious ISIS commander, Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, and forms part of sustained military efforts aimed at dismantling terrorist networks, degrading their operational capabilities, and denying them safe havens anywhere within the country.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to aggressively defend the nation’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity against all threats.
“The terrorists who threaten our citizens, communities and national stability will be located and defeated,” the statement said.
The DHQ further stressed that there would be no safe haven for terrorists anywhere in Nigeria as ongoing operations continue across multiple theatres in the North-East.
