Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have intensified ongoing offensives against terrorists and bandits in the North West, neutralising suspected members of the Lakurawa Terrorist Group and recovering weapons as well as dozens of rustled livestock during separate operations in Sokoto and Katsina states.

According to an official signed statement by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division/Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, the successful operations were part of sustained military efforts aimed at dismantling terrorist and bandit networks across the region.

Lieutenant Colonel Osoba disclosed that troops in Sokoto State responded swiftly to a distress call following an attempted attack by suspected Lakurawa terrorists on a Nigerian Immigration Service facility at Ruwa Wiri Village in Tangaza Local Government Area.

The troops reportedly engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle, neutralising two of the insurgents, while several others fled the scene due to superior firepower from the troops.

Following the encounter, troops conducted exploitation operations within the area and recovered two AK-47 rifles, ammunition, and a motorcycle believed to have been used by the fleeing terrorists.

In a separate operation in Katsina State, troops deployed in Jibia Local Government Area intercepted suspected terrorists moving with herds of rustled livestock during a fighting patrol around Danya Bakwai Settlement.

The troops engaged the criminals, forcing them to abandon the livestock and flee the area.

A total of 62 rustled livestock were successfully recovered during the operation and subsequently handed over to their rightful owners at the palace of the Daddara District Head in Jibia Local Government Area.

The military said Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains resolute in its determination to eradicate terrorism and banditry across the North West region.

The statement also urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information capable of enhancing ongoing counterterrorism and anti-banditry operations.
