Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have successfully repelled an attack by ISWAP terrorists on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Magumeri in Borno State, neutralising scores of the insurgents and recovering a cache of weapons and ammunition.

According to an official signed statement by the Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the terrorists launched the attack in the early hours of Wednesday, 7 May 2026, under poor visibility conditions in an attempt to infiltrate the base under Sector 3.

The statement disclosed that although the terrorists recorded minor breaches in an isolated section of the camp, troops fought gallantly and decisively contained the assault, inflicting heavy casualties on the attackers.

Lieutenant Colonel Uba stated that subsequent exploitation of the area revealed extensive blood trails, body drags and the recovery of terrorist corpses, confirming the scale of casualties suffered by the insurgents during the failed attack.

He added that troops recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition from the fleeing terrorists, including PKT automatic anti-aircraft guns, AK-47 rifles and magazines.

The statement, however, noted that two soldiers paid the supreme price during the encounter, while an officer and other wounded personnel are currently stable and receiving medical attention.

It further disclosed that some equipment and temporary structures within the camp were damaged by fire during the intense exchange of gunfire.

The military said troops are currently conducting further exploitation operations within the general area to consolidate on the gains recorded from the successful operation, while efforts to ascertain additional battle damage assessment are ongoing.

The statement added that the failed attack underscores the resilience and fighting spirit of OPHK troops in denying terrorists freedom of action across the North-East theatre.

The Military High Command commended the troops for their impressive battle performance and urged them to sustain the ongoing operational tempo against terrorist elements.
