A new political realignment gathered momentum as former presidential candidate Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso were formally presented with membership cards of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), marking their official entry into the emerging political movement.

The event, which attracted party leaders, lawmakers, and supporters from across the country, underscored what stakeholders described as a critical step toward building a broad-based coalition aimed at repositioning Nigeria.

Leading the proceedings, the National Leader of the party, Senator Seriake Dickson, warmly received the new members, describing the moment as a significant milestone in the party’s growth and national outreach. He emphasized that the NDC remains an ideological platform committed to integrity, inclusiveness, and service, with a strong focus on empowering women and young people.

“We are united in purpose, and we appreciate the value you bring into this movement. Together, we will unfold the political processes within the party in a way that is fair, transparent, and progressive,” Dickson said, while thanking supporters across Nigeria and in the diaspora for their confidence in the party.

Also speaking, the National Chairman of the NDC, Moses Cleopas, described the development as a defining moment for the party and the country.

“We are inspired by God to lead this party in the mission to rescue Nigeria,” Cleopas stated, urging members to remain focused and committed to the party’s vision of national renewal.

In his remarks, Kwankwaso said his decision to align with the party followed extensive consultations and a clear convergence of ideas, particularly in the areas of education, youth empowerment, and national unity.

“We came here to familiarise ourselves with the ideology, the blueprint, and everything this movement stands for. From our discussions, it is clear that we share common ground,” he said, adding that the party represents not just a political platform but a vehicle for development and inclusion.

He called on Nigerians, especially those seeking elective positions, to take advantage of the limited timeframe to register and participate in the party’s processes, while reaffirming his commitment to peace, unity, and progress.

On his part, Obi declared strong support for the emerging coalition, stressing the urgency of redirecting national focus toward addressing the country’s pressing challenges.

“It is unacceptable that over 50 percent of our population is not actively participating in productive activities that can move this country forward,” Obi said, calling for an end to internal party conflicts and a renewed commitment to nation-building.

He emphasized the need for a Nigeria where citizens can live in safety and dignity, noting that the collective mission must remain centered on tackling poverty, insecurity, and economic hardship.

“This journey we have begun must succeed. This ship must sail,” Obi added, urging stakeholders to remain steadfast.

The formal presentation of membership cards to Obi and Kwankwaso signals a strategic consolidation within the NDC, positioning the party as a growing force in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
