The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, on Thursday, April 30, 2026, paid an operational visit to Akwa Ibom State, where he held a high-level engagement with the State Government and presided over the passing-out ceremony of 1,068 retrained police constables in Uyo.

According to an official signed statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, the IGP’s visit commenced with a courtesy call on the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, where discussions centred on strengthening institutional collaboration in line with ongoing policing reforms focused on professionalism, accountability, and intelligence-led operations.

During the engagement, IGP Disu reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to evolving into a modern, service-oriented institution that prioritises public trust, operational effectiveness, and ethical conduct.

In his remarks, Governor Umo Eno welcomed the Inspector-General, commending the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force for sustained reforms aimed at enhancing discipline, professionalism, and service delivery. He also reiterated the readiness of the Akwa Ibom State Government to continue supporting security agencies in safeguarding lives and property across the state.

The IGP subsequently presided over the passing-out parade of 1,068 retrained constables at the Police Mobile Force Base, 26 PMF, Uyo, marking a significant milestone in the Force’s ongoing capacity-building efforts.

Addressing the newly retrained personnel, IGP Disu stated that the exercise was part of a deliberate strategy to strengthen operational competence within the Force, particularly in critical areas such as weapons handling, discipline, and strict adherence to established rules of engagement, including Force Order 237.

He stressed that effective policing demands not only bravery but also professionalism, restraint, and respect for fundamental human rights, warning that misconduct would not be tolerated.

The Inspector-General reiterated the Force’s zero-tolerance policy on misuse of firearms and extrajudicial actions, emphasizing that any officer found culpable would face immediate dismissal and prosecution in accordance with extant laws.

IGP Disu also commended the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, for the successful implementation of the retraining programme, particularly highlighting the inclusion and performance of female officers as a commendable model for other Commands nationwide.

He further acknowledged recent operational successes recorded in the state, including the rescue of kidnapped victims along the Calabar–Oron waterways, noting that such achievements underscore the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing and sustained inter-agency collaboration.

The Inspector-General reaffirmed that the Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in its commitment to building a professional, accountable, and citizen-focused institution capable of effectively addressing emerging security challenges across the country.
