Nigerian Navy troops have recorded significant operational successes under Operation FASAN YAMMA in the North-West region, including the rescue of kidnapped victims, the neutralisation of a violent extremist insurgent, and the recovery of weapons during coordinated counter-terrorism operations.

In an official signed statement, the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, disclosed that the operations were carried out in multiple engagements aimed at dismantling violent extremist networks and restoring security in affected communities.

According to the statement, troops deployed at the Forward Operating Base Ibira responded to a distress call on April 18, 2026, after gunshots were reported along the Doka–Ibira axis. On arrival, naval personnel engaged violent extremist insurgents in a firefight, forcing them to retreat and abandon their victims. Five abducted persons were rescued during the operation, with four sustaining gunshot injuries and one confirmed dead. The victims’ vehicle was also recovered, while troops continued exploitation of the area to track fleeing attackers.

In another operation on April 20, 2026, personnel of the 2 National Mission Force Brigade carried out a coordinated ambush at Anguwan Haske based on credible intelligence, resulting in the neutralisation of one insurgent and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle. No casualties were recorded among the troops.

The statement further revealed that naval operatives at FOB Dokan Karji responded to a distress call from Kushere Village, where armed extremists had abducted civilians. The troops engaged the attackers in a gunfight, overpowering them and successfully rescuing three kidnapped victims unharmed.

The Navy said the series of operations highlights its sustained contribution to counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency efforts across joint operational theatres, reaffirming its commitment to supporting national security objectives and ensuring a safer environment.

It also urged members of the public to continue providing credible intelligence to security agencies to enhance ongoing operations against violent extremist groups nationwide.
