The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Thursday received the Director-General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Ayo Omotayo, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where both institutions explored avenues for strategic collaboration aimed at strengthening national security and governance.

The visit focused on deepening institutional partnership between the Nigeria Police Force and NIPSS, particularly in the areas of strategic leadership, national security policy, capacity development and research support.

According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, the NIPSS Director-General was accompanied by retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Leye Oyebade, and policy expert, Garba Malumfashi.

During the meeting, Professor Omotayo highlighted the strategic role of NIPSS as Nigeria’s foremost policy think tank responsible for high-level research, dialogue and policy formulation. He explained that the institute operates under the direct supervision of the Presidency and serves as the country’s apex platform for strategic reflection and engagement among senior public officials, technocrats and leaders on issues of governance and national development.

He noted that the institute plays a critical role in shaping policy directions by bringing together experienced leaders and experts to examine national challenges and propose strategic solutions that strengthen governance and institutional performance.

Responding, the Inspector-General of Police welcomed the delegation and emphasized the importance of collaboration between operational security institutions and policy development bodies in addressing complex security challenges.

Disu reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to intelligence-led policing, enhanced capacity development and ongoing reforms aimed at improving professionalism and service delivery within the Force.

He also assured the NIPSS delegation of the readiness of the police leadership to work closely with the institute in advancing research, policy formulation and leadership development initiatives that would contribute to strengthening internal security and governance in Nigeria.

The police leadership noted that partnerships with credible policy institutions remain critical in developing innovative strategies to tackle emerging security threats and improve institutional effectiveness.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to fostering institutional collaboration with relevant stakeholders as part of broader efforts to ensure a safer and more secure nation.
